“Academic English Team Line 1” is about to leave. Welcome aboard the “Train”! There’s a series of activities of caring for students. Let’s enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way!
First Stop: Letters from the Heart
【Love&Care Mailbox】
Love&Care Mailbox is the first surprise to students, brought by teachers of Academic English Team at the beginning of this semester, so as to further strengthen the communication between teachers and students. The mailbox was designed to provide humanistic care for students who are willing to express their emotions by letters. Love&Care Mailbox can build a bridge between hearts and minds, serving as a guiding light for students. It can also successfully connect teachers with students and enhance mutual friendship.
Since Love&Care Mailbox was put into use, teachers has received many letters from students. This mailbox is just like a key to the secret garden for students’ hearts, by opening a channel to students for solving their problems and expressing their emotions.
Love&Care Mailbox represents the humanistic care for students, and it gives students a sense of belonging. The most sincere thoughts and feelings from students can be recorded at the moment when students start writing the letter. It’s also a process that enable students to sort out issues and reflect on themselves. Love&Care Mailbox will always be there for students. It will help students to experience the endless love and companionship given by teachers of Academic English Team.
The Second Stop: A Corner of Peace and Serenity【Vlog of Life】
Due to the recurrent epidemic outbreaks, students have shifted to online learning. While enjoying a slower pace of life, students are still full of energy. Upholding the principle of “Unity and Cooperation, Youthfulness and Vitality”, Academic English Team opened a Vlog channel for CAP students to record their daily life with a theme of sports.
Students have uploaded many Vlogs with entertaining, practical and technical contents, which fully represents the vitality and creativity. Using Vlog as a media in practicing English can help students to improve their English speaking skills in daily life.
Although students cannot finish offline teamwork and communicate with each other face-to-face during the quarantine, they still worked hard to overcome the difficulties. They did many types of exercises including playing VR sports games, playing ball games in public space, and doing anaerobic exercises with homemade small dumbbells, etc.
Students introduced different ways of keeping fitness in English via Vlog. This activity brings an opportunity for teachers to better understand the different lifestyles of students. Vlog provides a platform for students to record their daily routine and recharge themselves to feel the beauty of life at a corner of peace and serenity.
The Third Stop: A Diversified World 【Welcome to South Africa】
What comes to your mind when talking about South Africa? Football Games? Shining Diamond? Or Mandela who never gives up? Lizelle, the Academic English teacher from South Africa, dressing up in local costume, presents a different culture from South Africa. Let's enjoy an online journey with her!
South Africa is known as the “Rainbow Nation”. Lizelle introduced South Africa from the following aspects: history, culture, language, flora and fauna, resources, celebrities and costumes, etc.
How to say “hello” in 11 different languages in South Africa? Did you get any travel tips for South Africa? Lizelle acted as a tour guide and she provided a fascinating insight into the tourist spots and cuisines in South Africa, which aroused students’ interests and led to a lively discussion. An online trip to South Africa came to an end, but students will never stop learning the world culture.
The Fourth Stop: To be a Best Debater【Online English Debate】
In line with the principle of “Nurturing Spiritual Well-being and Promoting Academic Growth”, an Online English Debate was held by Academic English Team.
In this Online Debate Competition, students can build a team and select one topic for debate. In the whole process for preparing the debate, students take the lead while teachers provide assistance if necessary. This debate inspired students’ enthusiasm for independent learning and exploration. Everyone engaged in the debate actively shared his/her ideas by using critical thinking skills.
Students are encouraged to practice logical and critical thinking skills in their life, which be helpful to foster a correct outlook on the world, life and values in the future.
The Fifth Stop: To Make Much of Time【A Wonderful World--Online English Corner】
An Online English Corner named “A Wonderful World” was a special surprise to students given by teachers from Academic English Team. More than 100 teachers and students from home and abroad gathered online, and they initiated a fantastic journey crossing civilizational and geographical boundaries.
Lead-in Activity: April Fool’s Day. First of all, foreign teachers introduced the origin of April Fool’s Day. Secondly, teachers and students started playing Brain Teaser online. And then students shared different life experiences on April Fools’ Day.
The climax of the activity came when students were playing Kahoot Games and celebrating “Mad & Cool Festivals”. The Online English Corner not only provides a platform for students to learn English, but also builds a bridge between Eastern and Western cultures. It helps students to get access to the world and learn better in a relaxing atmosphere.
We hope that our students can keep moving forward with no fear. We believe that we will tide over the epidemic and enjoy a bright future together!
